October 2017 Prayer Letter

6 11 2017

The fall is here and with it hopefully cooler weather, of course this year the heat held on right up to the end of October.
I’m thankful for the cooler weather since the prison chapels don’t have air conditioning. It’s common to preach in a 95 plus
degree room and I usually preach and hour so it can be quite tiring.

Our church is still searching for a pastor. We had one man from Illinois come in to candidate but he didn’t feel it was the
right ministry to pursue. Our Associate Pastor Chad Phillips has been providing excellent leadership. He leads our
christian school as well as carrying pastoral duties.
I have been blessed with the opportunity to preach 2 Wednesday nights a month as well. This last month I preached a
series in anticipation of the upcoming 500th anniversary of the Reformation. I felt it was a good time to strengthen our
people in the faith we have in the Scriptures and define reasons we oppose the Roman Catholic Church.

Street Ministry:
We were able to continue our street ministry at the Downtown Bakersfield Courthouse and bus station. We gave out
about 300 tracts. We were also able to give away 13 bags of clothes that had been donated to help the homeless in our
community which was a blessing.

Prison Ministry:
My work at North Kern State Prison was affected this month by the prison being on lock down for 3 out of 4 weeks in
the month.. It is open again and I will begin ministry there again this coming week. Before the lock down I was able
to preach to 26 men, and give away 20 Bibles.

I was able to address questions from an inmate who had been taught by the Watchtower Society and I was able to
demonstrate to him from Scripture solid support for the Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ. I pray he considers what the
Scripture says. In the services I held before lock down 3 men made professions of faith and 3 others confessed
concern for their souls.

In October I was able to obtain my volunteer I.D. (brown card) at Antelope Valley State Prison in Lancaster. Prior to
this I had to go in with the State chaplain but now I can go in and hold services on my own which will give me
greater opportunity to teach the men there.

Other News:
Keep us in prayer as we take care of my mom in our home. Last month I mentioned we were trying to get her
insurance squared away. The Lord answered those prayers and she was approved. This should help our ability to care
for her.

We were able to attend missions Sunday at Desert Streams Baptist Church in Adelanto, California with Pastor
Thomas Strausbaugh. We presented our ministry and had a chance to fellowship with the church family. The pastor
expressed a desire to take us on for support as soon as they are able.

We also attended mission’s conference at New Testament Baptist Church in Hanford with Pastor Tom King. We
shared about our ministry and I had a chance to teach a Sunday School class. The Lord blessed the time and a young
girl called on the Lord for salvation. The church will be taking us on as missionaries.

Please consider supporting us financially as well as with your prayers as we desire to serve the Lord full time in the Gospel ministry. There are so many people who need to hear the Gospel and so little time to labor and serve the Lord in this life.

“If sinners be damned, at least let them leap to Hell over our dead bodies. And if they perish, let them perish with our arms wrapped
about their knees, imploring them to stay. If Hell must be filled, let it be filled in the teeth of our exertions, and let not one go unwarned
and unprayed for.” C.H. Spurgeon
