“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” Proverbs 14:12
We are told constantly in the world to “follow your heart” or to “do what’s best for you” or to “follow your dreams.” The problem is that we forget the admonition of Scripture that our heart is desperately wicked (Jeremiah 17:9) what’s best for us is to abandon ourselves (Matthew 16:25) and following our dreams will as this verse says lead us to destruction.
Many spend their lives building friendships, family, careers, reputations and bank accounts only to die and be cast into hell. In the lives of the rich man and Lazarus I’m sure the way of the rich man seemed right not only to himself but to those around him, and of course it was better than the way of the begger right? No! When he died he found himself in conscience punishment, not because he was rich but because he sought his own way.
