“And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.” Mark 6:34
In reading the life of H.A. Ironside, the book recalls a party he attended while in rebellion from the Lord as a teenager. During the party the Lord began to work on his heart and he ended up running home and getting saved. While at the party he watched all the young people laughing, talking and having a good time, occupied with the frivilous things in life with no thought of the fact that the judgement of God hung over them.
In this passage Jesus had compassion on the people because He saw them as (let’s just say it) dumb sheep headed to slaughter with no idea what was coming. It moved Him and it says He taught them many things. I wonder about us. As we go through life so occupied with the frivilous things are we conscience of impending judgement? Do we spend our time around the lost and never warn them? Do we see them as sheep headed to slaughter? If we do then why are we not moved with compassion and moved to teach them many things. If we do not then we must ask ourselves why don’t we see them as Jesus does?
